Definition of Brackish Water

The main characteristics of brackish water are that its alkalinity is greater than its hardness, it contains a large amount of neutral salt (salt content greater than 1000mg/L or chloride content greater than 800mg/L), and the pH value is greater than 7. Brackish water usually has high mineralization and cannot be used directly or has a limited scope of use.

Freshwater – less than 1,000 ppm
Brackish water – 1,000 ppm to 3,000 ppm
Medium salinity water – 3,000 ppm to 12,000 ppm
Seawater – from 12,000 ppm to 45,000 ppm
